Alien Labs, LLC, is seeking a laboratory manager to start up and operate its new cannabis testing laboratory in Roswell, NM. Alien Labs aims to provide the entire suite of potency and characteristic testing services required by New Mexico regulations to cannabis cultivation and manufacturing clients throughout New Mexico.

● Work Hours: 40 hours per week, but will be expected to step in to ensure samples are
analyzed according to their quoted schedule.

Lab Manager Job Responsibilities: 

‍
Our laboratory manager must be able to work precisely and structurally. The laboratory manager must have a comprehensive understanding of New Mexico regulatory testing requirements and be able to lead a small team of personnel to meet the cannabis testing needs of a select group of cannabis industry clients.

‍
The job responsibilities of the laboratory manager will include, but not be limited to:

‍
● Work to complete laboratory design and set-up, including ordering additional equipment
and supplies to process and analyze cannabis samples.

‍
● Develop laboratory process workflow and all SOPs associated with processing and
analyzing cannabis samples following NM State regulatory requirements.

‍
● Help complete the NM cannabis laboratory license application.

‍
● Identify informational needs and select/oversee laboratory information systems.

‍
● Maintain laboratory staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.

‍
● Establish quality standards and oversee the operation and maintenance of laboratory
equipment following manufacturer specifications.

‍
● Achieve quality results by developing and overseeing the laboratory quality assurance
program (from sample receipt through analysis, results reporting, billing, and waste
disposal).

‍
● Develop and supervise the laboratory safety program.

‍
● Oversee process workflow and laboratory personnel to meet business objectives with
maximum efficiency and safety.

‍
● Complete operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and
preparing payroll (outside payroll services).

‍
● Counsel and discipline employees as needed to achieve productivity and HR goals.

‍

● Oversee laboratory supply inventory and the ordering of new supplies, and I work with
accounting to ensure accurate expense reporting/tracking.

‍
● Work with accounting to develop and implement accurate client billing
methods/procedures.

‍
● Communicate with clients for marketing, scheduling, analysis results, and billing
purposes on an as-needed basis

‍
● Develop and oversee sampling and analysis waste disposal practices following state
requirements.

‍
● Hold regular staff meetings for training, education, safety, organizational/team building,
and operational efficiency.

‍
● Identify and report any opportunities for improvement within any laboratory operational
areas.

‍
● Maintain regular communication with ownership regarding the overall laboratory
operations.

‍
● Comply with state and professional continuing education licensure requirements.
Lab Manager Qualifications and Skills:

● Strong organizational skills and the ability to solve practical problems

● Good project and personnel management skills

● Working knowledge of relevant laboratory analytical procedures and equipment,
cannabis analytical experience a bonus

● Ability to read, analyze, and interpret relevant analytical procedures, manuals,
communication, and regulations

● Excellent communication skills

‍
Education and Experience Requirements:

‍
● A bachelor’s degree in biology or chemistry

‍
● At least 2 years experience as a lab manager
